Privacy Policy for Recontact
Last Updated: 2026-02-14
Recontact ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application and website collect, use, and disclose your information.
1. Overview
Recontact is designed with privacy-first principles.
- Mobile Application: Built on a "Zero-Knowledge" architecture. All personal data (contacts and identification logs) is processed locally on your device.
- Website: Uses standard analytics to improve user experience.
2. Information We Collect and Access
2.1. Mobile Application (Local Processing)
We access the following data solely to provide app functionality. This data never leaves your device.
- Contacts: We access your phone's native contacts to provide dual lookup functionality (checking both local app storage and device contacts) and to avoid identifying callers you already know.
- Call Identification: We process incoming call information in real-time to identify callers against your local database. We do not access your historical call logs.
- Message Identification: We process notifications from supported messaging apps (WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Telegram, SMS) to identify senders.
- Note: We process notification text locally to extract the sender's information. We save this sender metadata (name/number) to your Identity Log (stored in the app's secure database on your device), but we never store the actual message body or transmit any data off your device.
2.2. Website (recontact.matsco.de)
Our website collects limited data for analytics and support:
- Analytics & Tracking:
- Cookies: Managed via browser settings and on-site controls.
- Google Tag Manager: To manage marketing tags and analyze user behavior.
- Facebook Pixel: To track interactions and measure marketing effectiveness.
- Information You Provide:
- Early Access: When you sign up for our early access program, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. We use this information to notify you when early access is ready and to send you updates about the program.
- Support Inquiries: If you email us, we collect your email address and message content to respond to your inquiry.
3. App Permissions
Recontact requests the following permissions to enable its core features:
- Contacts: To integrate with your existing address book.
- Caller ID & Spam App Role: To identify calls and display identity information.
- Why this matters: This role is a modern, privacy-focused alternative to older permissions. Unlike "Read Call Log" (which exposes your entire call history) or "Read Phone State" (which exposes device identifiers like IMEI), this role only gives us the number of the person currently calling you, in real-time.
- Notification Access: To identify contacts from messaging app notifications.
- Draw Over Other Apps (Overlay): To show identity information on top of calls/messages.
- Post Notifications (Android 13+): To display local alerts with caller information.
4. Data Retention & Security
- Local Storage: All contact data and processing logs in the mobile app are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data.
- No Cloud Sync: We do not sync your contacts or call logs to any external servers.
- Security: We rely on Android's application sandboxing, which isolates our app's data so that other apps on your phone cannot access your private contacts or logs without your explicit permission.
5. Compliance
We respect local privacy laws and regulations, including:
- GDPR (EU): Our local-only processing ensures strict data sovereignty.
- CCPA (California): We align with consumer privacy rights regarding data control.
- NDPR (Nigeria): We comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation requirements.
6. Your Rights
- Revoke Permissions: You can revoke any permission at any time via your device settings (though this may limit app functionality).
- Data Deletion: Uninstalling the app instantly removes all local data associated with Recontact.
